Exactly one week ago today, I had the great pleasure of attending a “diner pensant” with the American historian James Hankins. The Pascal Institute in Leiden organised the dinner.
After 40 years of teaching at Harvard, Professor Hankins has been appointed Professor of Humanities at the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida, effective in the coming academic year.
Together with Allen C. Guelzo, he is the author of The Golden Thread: A History of the Western Tradition, which I recommended in this Substack.
